Today, the government has announced that the £2 bus fare cap will be extended to the 31st October, when a new £2.50 fare cap will come into play. This will last until November 2024. (Note – may differ between operators and regions. Check your route is covered here.)
We, obviously, welcome sucha move. Any extensions significantly benefit commuters that travel on routes like Leeds to Scarborough, where there has been a saving of £13 (source – GOV.UK). However, extending the fair cap at such a late point may mean that some operators will not sign up to the new period, leaving commuters suddenly out of budget. Such uncertainity shouldn’t be how government operates, and this is why we will continue our campaign to keep it extended indefinitely.
However, given the new changes we must take some time to process what we must do next. Therefore, you may not hear from us in the next week or two. However, you can remain assured that we will continue campaigning on this front.
In the meantime, please ensure that you have signed our petition. This is the best way to support us.
